New Year Restitutions

“Submit to God and be at peace with Him; in this way prosperity will come to you. Accept instruction from His mouth and lay up His words in your heart. If you return to the Almighty, you will be restored: If you remove wickedness far from your tent and assign your nuggets to the dust, your gold of Ophir to the rocks in the ravines, then the Almighty will be your gold, the choicest silver for you. Surely then you will find delight in the Almighty and will lift up your face to God. You will pray to him, and he will hear you, and you will fulfill your vows. What you decide on will be done, and light will shine on your ways.” – Job 22:21-28

Here we go again. Another new year has arrived, and we have much to thank God for. As with years gone by, I started to put a list of things I want to do this year, but this time I want this list to be different. Instead of calling it “resolutions” I’d like to refer to this list as “restitutions”. I always end up breaking my resolutions anyway, so I thought I’d put a new spin on things this year. A Whiz and a Blur

“Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to His voice, and hold fast to Him. For the Lord is your life, and He will give you many years in the land He swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.” – Deuteronomy 30:19b;20

As many people are drawn to contemplate upon the new year that’s coming, I recently came across a phrase that someone had posted on Facebook.  It says (I’m translating here because it was originally posted in Tagalog), “I will avoid things that make me fat…like weighing scales, mirrors, and pictures!”  It seems like our disdain for weight gain has always been triggered by what we’ve done with our diet in the month of December. It seems that guilt then carries over the following month, which of course is the start of the new year.  And don’t get me started on debt gain!  January can really be a sad month when many are dealing with diet and debt issues.
